Stephen Ilardi: Depression Is a Disease of Civilization

This TED Talk at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia presents the argument that human genetics have evolved only very little since the hunter-gatherer society of the Pleistocene epoch, which encompassed 99.9% of human beings existence. We were never designed for the sedentary, indoor, socially isolated, fast-food-laden, sleep-deprived, frenzied pace of modern life, which is resulting in an epidemic of depressive illness.
