New School Year Means Post-Newtown Security Changes

The school bells rang early this morning for tens of thousands of local students in Pittsburgh, and this year will mean new changes, especially when it comes to security. Electronic cards will now be required to enter school buildings during class hours and they will only be issued to district employees, in addition to the implementation of a new computer system called ‘School Gate Guardian’, which requires visitors to submit a drivers licence for a background check. Law enforcement told the school district they “needed it”, because they were “vulnerable”.
