Bart Simpson Catches Mutated Fish Caused By Nuclear Power Plant

From the fictional cartoon show “The Simpsons” to the real-life Fukushima disaster, brings the eerie possibility of a scene like this happening at a West Coast fishing spot in the not-too-distant future.

In the classic 1990 episode “Two Cars In Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish”, Bart catches the mutated fish ‘Blinky’, whose bizarre three-eyed condition has been caused by radioactive water being released from the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. (Since the episode first aired, Blinky has been mentioned several times in news publications regarding the adverse effects of nuclear waste on the environment).

The negative publicity brought upon the Power Plant from this surreal event causes a rapid government response. When an inspection team arrives to the nuclear facility on short notice, they gather radiation levels in open air which are far above the acceptable limits. (Presumably off the chart).
