NYPD’s ‘stop-and-frisk’ policy okayed by appeals court

On Thursday, a federal appeals court approved the controversial “stop-and-frisk” policy employed by the New York Police Department. A US District Court judge deemed the policy unconstitutional in August for unlawfully targeting minorities. The three-judge panel for the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit not only okayed the policy, but also removed District Court Judge Shira A. Scheindlin, citing impropriety from the bench after Scheindlin made opinionated comments on stop-and-frisk to the media.
