UN: More women and children dying in Afghan war

The United Nations has warned about the rising number of women and children dying in Afghanistan’s war.

A report by the UN says nearly three-thousand civilians were killed in Afghanistan last year, over 560 of whom were children. It shows the overall civilian casualties rose by 14 percent in 2013 compared to the previous year. That makes 2013 one of the deadliest years for Afghans since the 2001 US-led invasion of their country. The rising insecurity and insurgency in the country comes despite a 12-year US-led campaign against the Taliban.
