General Martin Dempsey: U.S. Military “Insures Freedom”

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Martin Dempsey, spoke about the role of America’s military in an “increasingly complex world” (whatever that means) during a recent speech at the Pacific Forum in Hawaii. He spoke about how the military instrument of power is the insurance policy which “underwrites our freedom and safeguards America’s interests”.

He continued by saying that the military will continue to ensure an “international order” which values security and prosperity, while reiterating that the armed forces are only one instrument of the nations power. The speech was concluded by General Dempsey saying that the U.S. military must be used with other instruments of power in order to achieve America’s “goals”. And of course, those goals (primarily Chinese-Russian containment and ongoing domination of the Middle East) are never specifically mentioned!
